PERMANENT EXHIBITIONS

HOCHELAGA, VILLE-MARIE, AND MONTRÉAL

Come visit Hochelaga, Ville-Marie, and Montréal year-round. This permanent exhibition allows you to discover the history of Montréal, Québec, and Canada from Amerindian prehistory to the early 20th century.

Here you will find unique artifacts, witnesses to the daily lives of our ancestors.

As you travel through time, you will pass through the Salle de Nantes, an opulent room noted for its magnificent mahogany panels which date back to the 18th century.

LIFE IN MONTRÉAL IN THE 18TH CENTURY

This permanent exhibition is presented in the vaults of the Château. The solid, thick-walled structure dominates the space now, as it did 250 years ago.

At that time, the city of Montréal was confined to what we now call Old Montreal. However, it was a city at the crossroads of important trade routes, and was influenced, throughout the years, by the Native People, the French, the British, and the Americans, among others.

The Chateau Ramezay is one of the few surviving witnesses to that era. Here, the walls speak. In the Chateau’s vaults, come discover day-to-day life as it was in 18th century Montreal.
