Are you interested in a volunteer experience that will offer you the opportunity to share your interest in history?

Would you like to be a part of a group of motivated and enthusiastic people?

Then volunteering at the Château Ramezay Historic Site and Museum is for you.

Volunteers help the Museum provide an activity based school program for children, guided tours for tourists, booked tours for groups such as older ESL students, as well as special activities for the public.

The Château will be launching an additional volunteer program: Become a guide-ambassador! We are looking for people fluent in languages other than French or English, who would like to introduce the Château to others sharing that language. There is no need for perfect mastery of French or English, it’s the desire to learn more about our city and share this knowledge, which counts!

In return for your time and commitment you can:

  • Learn new skills
  • Build new relationships
  • Expand your knowledge of history
  • Make history come alive for children and adults

You must be:

  • At least 18 years old
  • Able to communicate effectively in English*

No guiding experience is required but you should enjoy acquiring knowledge and communicating with the public.

Volunteer Opportunities

All volunteer opportunities involve guiding and other activities for the public.

  • Weekday program for elementary schools (Tuesday and/or Thursday)
  • Weekend tours for tourists (September to June)
  • Booked tours (ESL classes, high schools, cruise and corporate groups)
  • Summer tours for tourists (weekends or weekdays)

Volunteers also help with special activities for the public such as Museums Day, and Christmas and spring break events.

You are expected to commit to two days of volunteering per month (or more if you would like to).

Application Process

Prospective volunteers are asked to attend an Open House during Fall and Winter, and complete an application at that time. There will also be a brief interview at the Open House.

Note: The English Speaking Guides Association reserves the right to accept or decline membership.

A 10 session training course is provided, scheduled on Thursday afternoons in the fall. Part of the training is observing experienced guides before guiding independently.

In addition to the formal training, the museum sponsors lectures during the year for all guides and the guiding associations organize visits to other museums.

Join our Team

Volunteers have been at the heart of the museum since its establishment in 1895. The Association of English Speaking Guides has supported the museum for many years.

The museum recognizes the efforts of its volunteers and hosts various events to demonstrate their appreciation.

Join our team for a rewarding and interesting experience. Come volunteer with us to learn and to share your knowledge and enthusiasm with our visitors.
